Whole-Body Power & Inch Force Development
In Lesson 8 of our Wing Chun Wooden Dummy Training Series, we explore one of the most valuable outcomes of consistent wooden dummy practice: the ability to generate inch force by using your entire body in unified motion.
As your training develops, you'll naturally begin to channel power through the wrists as contact points with the dummy. This allows inch force to emerge without any need for brute strength or forced effort.
This kind of power doesn't come from swinging techniques—it comes from subtle joint rotations, the integration of large and small body mechanics, and transferring body mass through precise stepping and turning. It’s a hallmark of Wing Chun’s efficiency and internal structure.
Techniques covered in this lesson:
• Right Jut Sau and lower lying palm
• High and low Gaun Sau
• Bong Sau and Wu Sau
• Right grabbing hand with left throat-cutting hand
• Left Pak Sau and upper lying palm
• All techniques are trained on both sides of the wooden dummy for balanced, ambidextrous skill
This lesson emphasizes the deeper mechanics behind each movement—building refined, functional power that goes far beyond surface technique and benefits any martial arts practice.
