Tan Sau – Jut Sau – Man Sau Cycle, Floor Chi Sao & Tactile Refinement
In Lesson 6 of the Wing Chun wooden dummy series, we dive into a powerful cycle of Tan Sau, Jut Sau, and Man Sau, practiced in coordination with stepping and turning. This lesson emphasizes the fine cultivation and refinement of movement—helping you develop smooth transitions, dynamic balance, and strong yet pliable wrists.
The focus is on tactile precision: feeling the energy density at each point of contact, and learning how to manage energy transfer through subtle feedback. Through this practice, your tactile perception will deepen—especially your ability to sense the amount and direction of energy being injected into each contact point.
We also introduce the concept of "Floor Chi Sao"—a unique approach where you maintain awareness of both ends of your body:
• Upper body: in constant contact with the wooden dummy through your wrists, forearms, and palms.
• Lower body: connected to the floor through your feet, adjusting balance, angles, and weight distribution in real time.
This dual connection teaches you to refine every aspect of your movement. You'll cultivate a tactile relationship with both the dummy and the floor, developing the ability to project force in multiple directions while remaining rooted and responsive.
Through persistent, mindful practice, your brain and nervous system will naturally adapt to increasing tactile load, giving rise to genuine internal development—without forcing anything.
